When she was thirteen, her seventeen-year-old brother Nick, and her twin Damien came to rescue her. They broke her out of jail and ran away from the city, to the country, where they stayed for a year. Then, a year ago, the group met a gang of Third Children who had also run away, some with their siblings, some alone. Scarlett, Damien, and Nick joined, after harsh beatings given by the members, and they were brought into a world of information and violence. While Damien and a boy named Jay became lovers, and Nick and the leader continue to fight, Scarlett goes out and makes a name for herself - Red. It's given to her by the people, since the blood of her victims runs red, of course.
